The FC Barcelona cheering stands will express their protest this Sunday with the recent decisions of the board during the derby. A few days ago, the board demanded they pay the fines imposed last season and warned them that they could face more severe actions in the future.
For example: the closure of your stands during a match if certain incidents are repeated and new files are opened against you. The board sent a notarized request to the four groups that make up this group, which occupies around 600 seats, requesting reimbursement of 21,000 euros for the fines that the club had to pay in the 2023-2024 season.
They were given a period of a total of 15 days to make this payment. Furthermore, the institution warned that, if a new file were generated this campaign, the club itself could proceed to close the cheering stands during a match. So far, Barcelona has received up to three sanctions from the League, UEFA and the Generalitat for various reasons, from insults, to banners and for flares.
In a statement released this Saturday, the entertainment team asked the board for “a dialogue” that would allow them to improve their work, although they acknowledged that on occasions there had been “inappropriate chants and shouts.” However, they emphasize that these have not been a generalized phenomenon nor organized throughout the stands.
The group expresses its understanding of the club’s intention to “minimize and eradicate shouting,” but criticizes the ways in which these issues are being addressed, arguing that everyone is being blamed indiscriminately and holding everyone equally accountable. “The righteous will end up paying for the sinners,” they say.
That is why they have made the following determination: “The next match against Espanyol we will hold a protest to show our rejection of this way of acting by the club. The first 15 minutes of the game we will be present in the stands, but we will not cheer. We will merely act as spectators. Starting in the 15th minute, we will encourage our players very much to make the entire field the number 12 player and help them achieve victory,” they conclude in the statement.
