Barça announced this Monday that Chimezie Metu will be out for between six and eight weeks due to a grade two sprain of the internal collateral ligament in his left knee. The power forward will follow conservative treatment, as announced by the club.
The power forward was injured during the game against València Basket (102-99), after supporting in a bad position during the second quarter of the match. With this forecast, the Barça entity calculates that the American will miss the 13 games remaining until the end of the year.
Metu (27) arrived in the culé discipline this summer, from the Detroit Pistons. In a short time he has become one of the key pieces of Joan Peñarroya’s team, to the point that he is the sixth player on the squad who accumulates the most minutes played on average (18:48).
On the other hand, the American also presents good statistics in the Euroleague, with an average of 7.9 points and 28.9% from three-pointers. At the same time, he is the team’s top rebounder in the competition (4.4) and, in the Endesa League, he is the second top scorer (11.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 17 minutes per game).
His loss is added to that of Nico Laprovittola. The Blaugrana team lost the Argentine point guard on October 20 and he will be out for the entire season due to a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and an injury to the external meniscus in his right knee.
