Matchday 2
Xavi’s team beat Real Sociedad with a brace from Lewandowski and goals from Dembélé and Ansu Fati
The Reale Arena witnessed this Sunday all the gunpowder that Barça has this year. The team led by Xavi Hernández beat Imanol Alguacil 1-4 in a game in which the Catalans were not comfortable at any time, but in which they showed in the second half that they have a lot of goals this year. Lewandowski’s brace and goals from Dembélé and Ansu Fati gave the azulgranas their first win of the season and dispel all the doubts planted in the debut against Rayo Vallecano.
A shooting. Those were the first minutes of the game at the Reale Arena. Barça wanted to get rid of the bitter taste of the match against Rayo and they did it in one go, like when you remove a hair removal strip. Not even a minute had passed and Balde found a highway to assist Lewandowski, who knows how to move around the area like few others. His goal, at the first touch and with his left foot, was a flash that Imanol’s men were not going to shy away from. And it is that Real has the resources to go to war and in just five minutes turned the 39,500 spectators upside down with a counterattack that Isak finished with a Vaseline of those that do not need ‘slow motion’.
The game was a street runner, the fans shouted as if it were a Roman theater and Xavi asked for calm. Barça’s script happened because the De Jong, Gavi and Pedri tame the beasts, something that was not happening. Instead of taking over the controls, the culés entered this new scenario and the danger became in the transitions of the Real. Silva and Merino, with space between the lines, acted as shuttles and the back of the Blaugrana full-backs was the terrain to exploit. The two ‘txuri-urdin’ midfielders had the keys and both put Ter Stegen to the test, who excelled in an electric first half. The German saved the furniture and Ferran Torres, with a left foot, was able to make good the new Barça plan, but he shot wide.

After the restart, the game continued along the same lines. La Real understood that vertigo was the only way to damage a Barça that could not find its style and bet on it while the gasoline lasted. Those of Imanol, with the pressure above by flag, suffocated the Catalans and put Xavi’s men on the ropes. Brais Méndez scored from a direct free kick, but the goal was disallowed for positional offside, while Mikel Merino again forced Ter Stegen to intervene. There were two notices that set off the alarms. The thing did not work and it was time to change things from the bench.
Xavi’s bet was to launch an ordago. Defense of three and Raphinha and Ansu Fati on stage. All or nothing with four spearheads in attack. La Real accepted the challenge and the clash died there. Ansu served as 10 and led a festival full of fireworks. He assisted Dembélé with a masterful backheel pass for the Frenchman to unclog the clash and leaked into the ‘txuri-urdin’ defense to give Lewandowski the third. All the Barça gunpowder lit up in just five minutes and Ansu himself, omnipresent, was in charge of closing the match after a new partnership with Lewandowski. The new Barça is already here and has countless football levers to activate.
