The news of the Catalan GP
On the Barcelona circuit the King of Spain confirms himself Pecco Bagnaia. The Italian from Ducati, who had already won in Jerez a month ago, also silenced the Iberian public in Catalonia, ahead of the local idols at the finish line Jorge Martin And Marc Marquez and thus avenging the bitter crash suffered yesterday on the last lap of the Sprint race, when he was in the lead. Today’s victory is the third victory of the season for the reigning world champion, which is fundamental to slightly shorten the gap to Martin himself in the world rankings.
Behind theyet another Ducati hat-trick Aleix Espargarò’s Aprilia emerges, first yesterday but defeated today in the battle for the last step of the podium with Marc Marquez. Fifth instead was a fantastic Raul Fernandez, with the 2023 Aprilia version of the Trackhouse team. Among the big names, a bitter day for the wonder rookie Pedro Acostawho fell while he was in second position in the initial phase of the race and then got back on the bike to still manage to finish the race in 14th place, in the points.
The words of the top-3
Pecco Bagnaia (1st, Ducati): “Special victory? I was honestly very angry about yesterday’s crash. I knew we had the potential to win and I tried to give everything from the start. It was difficult because other riders were also pushing but when I saw that they had problems with the front I tried to take advantage of the opportunity. The team did a fantastic job to set up the bike as best as possible. I’m very happy and now I can’t wait to race at home.”
Jorge Martin (2nd, Ducati-Pramac): “I am very happy with the race. Starting seventh was difficult. I did the first corner well, I found myself fourth and then I was comfortable. I surpassed the others and I realized that I had something more. In the end, however, I had given everything. I tried to put pressure on Pecco, but it was useless. The race was difficult, but we’re looking forward to the next one“.
Marc Marquez (3rd, Ducati-Gresini): “I chose the soft even though I knew it was risky. But it was the only solution to attack from the beginning. With the medium you risk getting stuck and then struggling to get back up. The fact of starting in P14 pushed me to choose the soft. I didn’t start at my best, but I knew it would be a long race. I tried to manage the tires and move up step by step and when I could I tried to pass Aleix and I did it. I’m sorry for Aleix, because it was his last race here, but I’m really happy to have arrived on the podium on such a difficult track.”.
