From 12 points to 0 in an instant
Francesco Bagnaia he was one step away from ‘unlocking’ in a Sprint race that had seen Raul Fernandez and Brad Binder fall when they were in the lead. Turns to the left are always delicate in motorcycling in Barcelona and today three riders fell as leaders of the race.
The last one was Bagnaia on the last lap of the Sprint, 12 points lost which weighs on the standings given that Martin extends his lead and Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini are now ahead of Pecco.
“We spent some time in the garage analyzing the crash: same braking point, slightly lower speed but the two degrees more in the lean angle led to my crash. Nothing sensational, but this is the reason for the slide. It’s a shame because I was fast and was controlling the margin at the front of the race; I knew I had the pace and I thought about keeping the situation under control, then when I saw that the others started to struggle, I decided to start pushing again. Obviously I’m very disappointed, especially because it’s the third weekend in a row in which we’ve finished the sprint race without points. Obviously it’s a missed opportunity, because we had 12 points well within our reach, so I’m a bit angry. Tomorrow I will have to pay more attention, especially at the 5″ curveBagnaia’s analysis.
Enea Bastianini he commented on fourth place like this: “The day didn’t go as expected, especially after the steps forward made yesterday. Unfortunately this morning the sensations were back to those of the beginning and it was tough, in qualifying I also had a good lap canceled for having switched to the green at 13 and therefore I found myself far behind on the grid. The sprint race went quite well: I made a good start but unfortunately a contact with (Marc) Márquez took me off the track and from then on I was no longer able to recover. It’s a shame, but we’ll try to do better tomorrow.”
