Baerbock, Pistorius and Scholz are calling for more weapons for Ukraine. EU aid could be decisive for the course of the war.

Berlin – At a summit meeting of the EU Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has ordered the delivery of additional weapon systems for the Ukraine war required. The EU partners should join Germany, which has already delivered Patriot air defense systems and promised another, Scholz said on Wednesday evening. “We also want to encourage others to do the same”

“The Russian war of aggression is continuing with great brutality, and we know that we have to do more than we are doing so far to support Ukraine,” Scholz said loudly afp. That's why everyone now has to “look into their inventories to see whether they can spare additional air defense systems, especially Patriots.”

The federal government is trying to support the fragile situation of the Ukrainian air defense with short-term aid. Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) had previously made an “urgent appeal” to partner countries. It’s “about every single rocket,” said a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Defense.

Last Saturday, Pistorius spontaneously announced the delivery of another Patriot air defense system from the Bundeswehr. According to information from the mirror The spontaneous weapons assistance is part of a large-scale German anti-aircraft initiative. In an incendiary letter, the two ministers called on all allies to “re-examine the stocks of anti-aircraft systems to see what can be given to Ukraine.”

Without help, Ukraine cannot defend itself against Russia for much longer

“Given the situation in which Ukraine finds itself, our help is extremely urgent,” the letter continued. More air defense is urgently needed to protect the Ukrainian population. It's about taking action, said Pistorius.

At the beginning of April, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba reported brutal Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and the systematic destruction of energy infrastructure by Russian drones and missiles at the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels. He made it clear that Ukraine would not be able to defend itself for much longer without help. (lm/afp)
