A baby of just 18 months old lost his life from an alleged fentanyl overdose in California, according to information revealed by the Santa Cruz PoliceNow, the minor’s mother faces charges of child abuse.
According to police reports, the woman identified as Korisa “W” went to the Dominican hospital with her lifeless baby. Medical tests showed signs of possible fentanyl and cocaine in the minor’s bloodstream.
In this regard, the Deputy Chief John Bushof the Santa Cruz Police Departmentexpressed the indignation that this case aroused in him and in society in general before the local media.
“We hope we can get justice for this child and find out exactly what happened,” declared.
However, Santa Cruz authorities are awaiting the autopsy that will be carried out by the County Sheriff’s Office to confirm the facts and proceed accordingly.
The deputy police chief also did not rule out the possibility that the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s office could file additional charges.
“We still have witnesses and additional evidence and forensic examinations to conduct,” Bush said. “Ultimately, we are committing all of our resources to this investigation to try to get justice for this child.”
