On the heels of Microsoft’s announcement of plans for Gamescom 2024 this month, The Verge published a report stating that Avowed would have been postponedwith the release date reportedly postponed to next year.
According to Tom Warren’s sources, the new alleged launch window for the game would be framed in the early 2025. If this is true, we will likely find out the truth during the summer fair in Cologne, where official news should arrive directly from Microsoft and Obsidian.
The game is in good shape, is it STALKER 2’s fault?
In his tip, Warren added a very interesting detail, namely that the change of schedule for Avowed would not be due to any problems or delays in the development schedule, but rather to the recent postponement of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl to November, which was the month initially chosen for the release of Obsidian’s title.
“I’ve heard that Obsidian is about to announce a delay for Avowed. The team had been aiming for a November release, but with the Xbox exclusive STALKER 2 being pushed back to November, things are getting complicated for Xbox games in the all-important holiday season,” Tom Warren said.
Even though it is a third-party game, its inclusion in Game Pass and the temporary console exclusivity on Xbox Series X|S make STALKER 2 a vital piece in Microsoft’s strategy for the Christmas period, the most commercially important and profitable for the sector. Consequently, the idea of moving the launch of Avowed by a few months so as not to have to compete “at home” with the title of GSC Game World does not seem far-fetched. That said, it is almost useless to point out that what was launched by The Verge is a rumor without official confirmation, so do not take it as gospel.
