World preview debut at the Milan Design Week for the Audi Q6 e-tron, the fourth electric model in the Four Rings brand's range. The House of Progress, the Milanese headquarters for the German brand, is in fact the stage for this new electron SUV which is placed between the Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron in the line-up on tap in Ingolstadt, introducing several technological innovations. Which? We tell you all about the new Audi Q6 e-tron in our first live contact at Milan Design Week.
Platform and design
Let's start with the platform, the PPE, Premium Platform Electric, which is the basis for the new Audi Q6 e-tron and which this high-wheeled model shares, for example, with the new Porsche Macan. The new SUV from Ingolstadt is 4.77 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.89 metres, with very short overhangs and a sporty and elegant design, in which we find the stylistic features that are common to the entire Four Rings range. Such as the closed grille, the new logo and the thin cut of the headlights which in this case are OLED and allow the light beam to be managed via the multimedia system settings. Being an electric there is also a lot of space on board, with the new Audi Q6 e-tron offering a load capacity of 526 liters thanks to the boot in addition to the 64 liters of the front frunk. The aerodynamic rims are also available in different sizes, from 18 to 21''.
Interior of Audi Q6 e-tron
Elegance and modernity mix inside the cockpit of the Audi Q6 e-tron, with the fully digital dashboard featuring three screens in addition to the Head-up Display. The large curved screen that integrates display and touch drivers for the multimedia system, measuring 11.9 and 14.5'' respectively, both with OLED technology, immediately catches the eye. Added to these is also a screen for the passenger with a polarization system which avoids distractions for the driver. The infotainment system is based on Google Automotive with software that integrates all Audi's intelligent navigation systems to display rapid and AC charging stations in order to facilitate and better plan the journey and the stops necessary for charging. The physical buttons are practically absent, with all the controls for climate control and vehicle set up. The interior also features great attention to the choice of materials, with sustainability at the centre: there are eco-leather, recycled plastics with specific processes and for the SQ6 version also dynamic microfibre.
Engine and autonomy
The new Audi Q6 e-tron will initially be offered in two powertrain configurations, both with a 100 kWh battery, 94.4 kWh of net capacity. Unlike the Porsche Macan EV, which will have two synchronous motors, there will be only one asynchronous motor on the front axle with a power of 387 HP and 535 Nm of torque which guarantees a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. The sporty Audi SQ6 e-tron quattro variant is powered by a unit capable of offering 517 HP and 820 Nm in boost mode, with 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h h. Two variants with rear-wheel drive will also debut in the coming months, a long range and a standard range. The new architecture integrates 800 Volt technology which allows compatibility with fast charging infrastructures up to 270 kW, allowing DC to recover from 10 to 80% of the travel range in 21 minutes. In practice, in 10 minutes you can have 255 km available. The overall autonomy goes from 625 km in the WLTP cycle for the standard version to 585 km for the SQ6. We then find the Plug & Charge function as standard at the IONITY and ewiva stations. Charging in alternating current takes place with powers up to 11 kW (at a later stage it will reach up to 22 kW).
Price and trim levels of the Audi Q6 e-tron
The new Audi Q6 e-tron will hit the road in the third quarter of 2024 although orders are already open. The new electron SUV from the Four Rings brand is available in the Business, Business Advanced and S Line Edition trim levels, with the SQ6 version available in a basic or sport attitude variant. The price of the new Audi Q6 e-tron starts from 79,500 euros for the coupé and 97,200 euros for the Sportback.
The installation Reflaction at Milan Design Week 2024
The new Audi Q6 e-tron is the protagonist of the installation of this edition of the Milan Design Week, with the Four Rings brand confirming itself as a partner of the Fuorisalone with a partnership that has been going on since 2014. As part of the exhibition event Interni Cross Visionthe 2024 Audi installation is signed by the international design studio Bjarke Ingels Group, and is called “Reflaction”. The name “Reflaction”, portmanteau of “reflection” and “action” is linked to the concept that our actions in the world reflect the very essence of our existence, giving further conceptual depth to the installation. The creation of design is configured as the “plus” symbol seen from above which goes beyond the mere concept of numerical increase to instead represent a conceptual manifesto. Through a minimalist selection of elements, the area is divided into four distinct sectors that reflect both the core thematic principles of the installation and the rings of the Audi logo. This structure not only physically expands the surrounding space and enhances its architecture, but also reflects Audi's commitment to promoting the avant-garde through innovative design. The mirror installation creates an immersive spatial illusion, highlighting the Brand's continuous tension in overcoming the limits of innovation. Thanks to the mirrored walls measuring 10 x 1.2 x 8.5 metres, the environment is divided into four distinct sectors – Community, Knowledge, Performance and Audi's Digital light. The four spaces each offer a unique but complementary experience and at the same time communicate the illusion of a circular spatial configuration. In the Knowledge area, an amphitheater with solid wood steps and chromed steel balustrades constitutes the meeting point where people gather to share knowledge and discuss. This intimate environment will host thematic talks with AUDI AG experts, encouraging interaction between speakers and the audience, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience that allows for deeper connections. In the Digital light area, Audi highlights its cutting edge in terms of technology and design thanks to the new generation of digital and segmented OLED lights. This innovation opens up new possibilities in tailor-made design and intuitive communication between driver, vehicle and surrounding environment, underlining the importance of digitalisation in creating engaging light experiences. Next, in the Community space, a tree-lined courtyard offers refreshment during the frenzy of the Fuorisalone days. A “circular forest” of Japanese maples provides a natural canopy, creating a welcoming space where people can gather, recharge and relax, united by a sense of community and connection. The heart of the installation is the Performance area, where two Audi SQ6 e-trons will be the maximum expression of the values of Audi's Vorsprung durch Technik. Audi's commitment to excellence is reflected here: a ring of mirrored cars, created from the reflections, allows you to examine the cars from eight different perspectives, highlighting Audi's constant search for directions not yet taken.
