Attempted assassination of Volodymyr Zelensky: Two soldiers are detained

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian security services (SBU) announced an important breakthrough by dismantling a plan of murder against the president Volodymyr Zelenskyallegedly coordinated by Russian agents, two soldiers are detained.

According to AFP, the soldiers who have been captured have the rank of colonel, and are responsible for the security of senior officials. Both were arrested in connection with this plot.

According to the SBU statement, an attempt to murder against Zelensky, as well as against other senior Ukrainian political and military officials. The network, run by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), primarily targeted the Ukrainian president.

Those involved planned to recruit soldiers close to Zelensky to take him hostage and, eventually, kill him. One of the conspirators was reported to have obtained drones and explosives as part of the operation.

This is not the first assassination attempt against Zelensky and his inner circle. Ukraine has denounced several similar plans in the past.

According to an article in The Time, Zelenskyuntil March 2022 he had survived three attempted murderswhich were planned by mercenaries from the Kremlin and the Chechen special forces.
