Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, close to former Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021), He tried this Wednesday without success to remove his boss and party colleague Mike Johnson as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

Greene stood on the House floor and read a long list of “transgressions” she said Johnson had committed as president, while her colleagues on the bench booed and shouted their disapproval.
In that way, Greene formally introduced a motion to impeach Johnson, the highest-ranking Republican in Washington and who took office as president of the Lower House in October 2023.
More Republicans (196) voted to reject Greene’s motion than Democrats (163). Only 11 Republicans voted to remove their boss.
Greene announced in March her intention to try to remove Johnson, but until today she had not activated the mechanism to do so.
Johnson became President of the Lower House as a result of a fratricidal struggle within the Republican Party that brought down the previous president, Kevin McCarthy, precisely because of a budget agreement with the Democrats.
McCarthy’s fall in October of last year plunged the House and Republicans into chaos for weeks until they agreed on Johnson.
The situation now, however, is different. The November elections have changed the equation, with the Republican party leadership wanting to show unity and convince voters of its effectiveness, in the face of the images of chaos of recent months.
