A Russian missile attack hit the Ukrainian military base in Yaroviv (in the Lviv region), near Poland, in the early hours of Sunday (13). A balance sheet by local authorities showed 35 dead and 134 wounded in the early morning attack. The 360 square kilometer facility, less than 25 kilometers from the Polish border, is the largest in western Ukraine and has provided access to weapons sent to Ukrainians by Western powers.
According to information from regional governor Maksym Kozytskyy, released by Reuters, Russian planes fired about 30 rockets at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security in Yavoriv. Some of them, Kozytskyy said, were intercepted before firing.
Reuters reported that 19 ambulances with sirens were moving towards the Yaroviv region as black smoke rose in the area.
Before the Russian invasion, Ukraine used this base for military exercises with other countries. A NATO official said there were no alliance personnel there at the time of the attack.
