A goal from Guillermo Paiva and another from Guillermo Cardozo were enough this Wednesday to
Olimpia to open an abyss with the César Vallejo University, win 2-0 and seal their classification to Phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores in which the Colombians of Atlético Nacional are waiting.
Striker Paiva cleared the way with a powerful shot in the 34th minute and, when the game seemed to be a judged case, winger Paiva appeared to put the icing on the cake in the 83rd minute. The series between Paraguayans and Peruvians had no equivalents as it ended with a 3-0 aggregate for the Dean.
Eight days ago the teams met in Lima to play the first leg and the three points were held by the Paraguayan team. During that game the Poets pressed from the opening whistle, kept their forward lines, but skirmishes faded into a rocky defence.
Then striker Jorge Recalde appeared to establish the minimum advantage in favor of the Asuncion team with a headed goal. Coach Julio César Cáceres, former champion of the Libertadores with the Dean, today planned a game of great vertigo, with an offensive trident formed by Paiva, Recalde and Derlis González.
The meeting at the Defensores del Chaco stadium could well have left the second half, since in the first stage the visitors were overwhelmed from start to finish. The locals had at least three scoring opportunities to extend the advantage until striker Paiva appeared in the area to pick up a half clearance from a defender and direct a brutal shot to the left squad that left goalkeeper Carlos Grados without reaction.
For the second half, the coach of the Trujillo team, José ‘Chemo’ del Solar, sought to regain possession of the ball, but without offensive ideas or full control of the actions, the match fell into an inconsequential process at times, since
Olimpia already felt very comfortable with the advantage and the imminent classification.

In a collective maneuver, the defense of the Poeta team provided several rebounds and on the third attempt Cardozo appeared to seal the aggregate with a wide 3-0 in favor, and score his first goal of the season.
Phase 2 will begin for Paraguayans and Colombians on February 24 in Asunción and will end a week later in Medellín.
