Very active in the transfer market, Atlético de Madrid wants to close the signing of Julián Álvarez. A complicated operation from an accounting point of view, but the red-and-white squad is willing to make a great sacrifice to secure the arrival of the Argentine.
In no hurry to sell the former River Plate striker, Manchester City are upping the ante. And while The Athletic reported yesterday that a total agreement had been reached for a sum of 80 million euros, which would rise to 95 million with bonuses, Atlético de Madrid is backing out for a good reason.
A change of direction announced by Fabrizio Romano, which does not mean that the club no longer wants the Albiceleste striker. Atleti are simply asking the Citizens if they would be interested in the Portuguese Joao Felix, in order to drastically reduce the transfer fee, or even become “a direct exchange”, according to the Italian journalist. Pep Guardiola likes the former Benfica player, but it is not something he is considering at this stage of the market.
Four days after signing Norwegian giant Alexander Sorloth for €32m, and with the prospect of losing Samu Omorodion to Chelsea for €50m, the planes with strikers are arriving in Madrid. And the trend has not ended, with Julián Álvarez likely to land in the Spanish capital. Whether or not Joao Félix will find a new home remains to be seen.
The deal is still up in the air, as both clubs will kick off their league campaigns on the weekend of August 17, against Chelsea for the skyblues and at Villarreal for the rojiblancos.
