Annimari Korte is preparing for her last season as a hurdler after an injury.
A fencer Annimari Korte ends his injury-plagued career this season.
Last season, Korte suffered three injuries, the worst of which took him to the operating table.
The tendon of Kortte’s left hamstring tore from the bone. In the operation, the torn tendon was anchored back to the bone.
“The leg was opened and we looked at what was there,” 36-year-old Korte said on Wednesday at the general athletes’ pre-season event at the Olympic Stadium.
The tendon tore when he was bumping in fence training. Korte believed that the compurising was caused by the disorder of activity and attention from ADHD, from which he told last August in an Instagram update.
“Now I’m like a different person, thanks to the medication. The depression is gone,” Korte said happily.
In order to participate in competitions, however, he needs an exception permit for the therapeutic use of the drug.
Last in the opening race of the season in Jyväskylä, Korte injured his wrist and later his Achilles tendon.
After surgery on his hind legs, Korte successfully rehabilitated his leg for six months. For the first time, he tried hurdles in the spring at a training camp in Tenerife.
“I have only run four times at full speed. The mobility is not yet the same as before, so that you can shave properly. The leg does not straighten over the fences as it should, even though the speed is good,” said Korte.
The court was supposed to start its competition season on Saturday in Espoo, but due to the cool weather, the opening was moved forward a week to the Nordic championships in Malmö.
Last season, Korte broke the European Championship limit of 12.98 three times in the 100-meter hurdles. At his best, he ran 12.93 in Espoo in June.
Authenticity in June at the European Championships in Rome is, however, still uncertain. Participation depends a lot on how well he manages to get in shape during the next month.
Mind would also like to run to the Olympic Games in Paris, but getting there is uncertain. The direct limit for the Olympics is 12.77. Kortte’s record is 12.72, which he ran in 2019.
Even if the hurdles went well in the summer, Korte has made his decision.
“There is a farewell season from hurdles ahead. Every fencer has a small fear that the tendon will tear again. You never know what to expect.”
