One year after its launch, Royal Canin and Frida’s Friends present the impact of one of the first projects with cats as protagonists of Pet Therapy activities: in 12 months, through over 100 sessions in the Niguarda and Fatebenefratelli hospitals in Milan, more than 1,000 pediatric patients between 6 months and 15 years supported by Cat Therapy. The project – reports a note – was born with the aim of contributing to the healing process of young patients in pediatric departments through the positive impact that cats can have on people, stimulating positive emotions such as self-esteem, care and ‘self-love, serenity.
The positive impacts of Cat Therapy are many, please remember: relational area, thanks to improvement of socialization and participation in new activities and interaction skills, reduction of self-closure, improvement of the relationship with the therapists; psychomotor area, with the improvement of some specific movements; cognitive area, with an impact on short-term memory, attention and concentration skills; affective area, with the improvement of the emotional relationship with the animal. During the year, the Royal Canin Foundation and Frida’s Friends Onlus collected some testimonies from the children and families who took part in the Cat Therapy activities: “The experience with the cats was very beautiful and relaxing, in fact I didn’t relax for months.” And again: “Seeing Emma calm and serene in such an unknown and sometimes fragile moment was beautiful. Thank you because what you do is wonderful and important. Emma, Alessia, Dario”.
The commitment of the Royal Canin Foundation, which operates all over the world and supports 15 projects to date – we read in the note – arises from the awareness that dogs and cats have always made the world a better place for us, not only thanks to joy that they give us: their closeness, in fact, provides numerous benefits and the objective of the Royal Canin Foundation is precisely to support the positive role of pets in human health and well-being, creating long-term value for society. It is precisely with this in mind that Frida’s Friends Onlus has operated in the major hospital institutes of Northern Italy for over 13 years promoting the benefits of Pet Therapy, obtaining consensus and recognition for the high professionalism and innovation of the proposed projects to which more and more requests for intervention in multiple medical-health facilities, from all over Italy.
