At least seven people have died because of the collapse of a dock walkwaywhere this Saturday, October 19, a crowd had gathered for a celebration in the Sapelo Island, Georgiain the southeastern United States, according to local authorities.
“At least Twenty people fell into the water when the walkway collapsed. Currently, the number of fatalities is seven and still the number of injured is unknown“said the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in a statement.
A celebration that ends in tragedy
The crowd gathered at the pier where the ferries dock that connect this island, very close to the Atlantic coast, with the continent for a act of the small Gullah Geechee communitydescendants of African slaves who worked on the plantations of the southeastern coast of the United States.
