A man has spread panic this Saturday in a shopping center in Sydney, Australia, where he has killed at least five people and left a number of people injured – some in critical condition – yet to be determined. The suspect, who has been killed by the Police, was armed with a knife and the authorities have not ruled out for now that it could be a terrorist act.
The event took place around 4:00 p.m. local time (around 8:00 a.m. on the Peninsula) when the Bondi Junction shopping center, in the east of Sydney, was packed with customers. The man then burst into the shopping area with a knife and began stabbing people who crossed his path. Among them, he has left at least five dead and several victims with injuries of varying degrees, some serious.
The New South Wales emergency services have confirmed the death of the attacker, shot dead by the Police, who is believed to have acted alone. The reasons that led him to attack the crowd that was in the shopping center have not been revealed although it is being investigated whether it could be a terrorist attack. The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has conveyed his condolences to those affected.
