This Wednesday night, a strong thunderstorm knocked down the stage where the presidential candidate for the Citizen Movement, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, was together with part of his team, for the closing of the campaign of Lorenia Canavati von Borstel, the candidate for MC to the mayor of San Pedro Garza García, in Nuevo León, who was at his side at the time of the collapse. A gust of wind ended up knocking down the roof and the giant screen on the stage, which almost fell on the candidate and his collaborators. Meanwhile, in the public, panic and chaos were unleashed by the wind and objects that were dragged over the heads of the attendees. At least five people have died and 50 have been injured as confirmed by the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García.
A few minutes after the accident, Álvarez Máynez published on his X account that he was safe: “After the accident in San Pedro Garza, where a gust of wind collapsed the stage where we were, I went to the San José hospital. “I am fine and in communication with state authorities to follow up on what happened,” he wrote. Moments later, the candidate reported that he had left the hospital to return to the crash site to be with the victims.
The members of my team who were injured are already being treated in the hospital.
I am heading back to the scene of the events to accompany the victims. https://t.co/nb9tHxADLp

A video has gone viral on social networks in which several people try to rescue others, with the help of a soldier, on whom a giant metal structure has fallen. In the images you can hear cries for help and desperation from those trying to help. The accident occurred in El Obispo park, located on the outskirts of San Pedro Garza García—one of the richest municipalities in Latin America—just an area far from the wealthiest neighborhoods. This space is located just over seven kilometers from the center of the municipality.
In a video uploaded on his networks, in which he appears completely dressed in black, the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, asked the population of the metropolitan area of the State to take shelter from storms and winds. “15 minutes ago there was already a misfortune, strong winds knocked down a stage, unfortunately there are injuries, security forces and ambulances are already there,” he said, without specifying the number of injured or if there have been people killed. Later, in statements to the media, García confirmed the five deaths and at least 50 injuries.
