The presentation trailer Of Assassin’s Creed Shadows already has a record, unfortunately a negative one: it is the most despised among those of the entire series. On every YouTube channel he has appeared on he has received a barrage of “I don’t like him”. The most viewed is certainly that of the official Ubisoft channel, which is also the most attacked. In four days it had more than 7 million views, but the opinions expressed by viewers are quite clear: more than 260,000 “Likes” against almost 600,000 “Dislikes”.
Even on the official PlayStation channel the situation is similar (around 15,000 “likes” versus around 26,000 “dislikes”). On other channels, such as IGN, the situation is more or less the same (about 8,300 “likes” versus about 36,000 “dislikes”). The battle against the black protagonist Yasukebecause this is basically what it is about, also affected the following video on the official channel which talks about the two protagonists: Yasuke and Naoe, where we can see around 29,000 “Likes” against around 83,000 “Dislikes”, for 1 million views .
As mentioned, it is the presentation trailer of the most despised Assassin’s Creed ever.
Why so much hate?
Much of the criticism concerns Yasuke and the choice to use him as one of the protagonists. Although historical sources report that Yasuke was a real person, a man of African origin who ended up serving the very powerful warlord Nobunaga Oda, and despite his presence in manga and other video games, many have not accepted his inclusion.
According to some, the first chapter of the series set in Japan was supposed to have a Japanese protagonist, who actually exists: Naoe, but who for some reason is not considered. Others cited a lack of historical accuracy, and others cited yet other pretexts for their attacks.
Despite this, it seems that pre-orders for the game are among the best ever recorded by the series, which could be a sign that online controversy doesn’t always affect sales, as Hogwarts Legacy teaches.
