WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange suffered a minor stroke in prison at the end of October, in the midst of a court battle against his extradition from the UK to the US, his partner Stella Moris said.
Moris, the mother of two children he had with Assange, said that took place on Oct. 27, the first day of consideration of the US appeal against the refusal to extradite Assange, which Washington wants to try for espionage.
“It has to be released. Now,” Moris tweeted Saturday night.
The Mail on Sunday newspaper reported that Assange, 50, suffered a “transient ischemic accident” during which blood flow to a part of the brain was briefly interrupted.
This caused memory loss, signs of neurological damage, and her right eyelid drooping. Since then, he has been taking medication, according to the newspaper.
“I believe that this constant game of chess, battle after battle, this extreme stress, is what caused Julian to stroke this Oct. 27,” said Stella Moris, adding that she fears her partner will fall victim to a more serious episode.
This information about Assange’s health comes two days after the United States won a major victory in its process to obtain his extradition.
Assange’s lawyers have announced, however, that they will appeal to the British Supreme Court and international courts if necessary.
