After courageously undergoing the fourth operation on the humerus of his right arm, Marc Marquez he finally found a concrete improvement in his physical condition, and for the first time since the injury in Jerez 2020 he was able to get on the saddle without feeling pain. Clearly after these two vintages the Spaniard needs a long journey to find the shape and to understand the final level of the limb compared to full function prior to the accident. Marquez has repeatedly explained that this winter will be crucial in this respect, bearing however in mind that important help from Honda will be needed to return to fight for the title, given that the Japanese company finished in last place among the constructors 2022 and is in deep technical crisis.
In the TV series ‘Cuatros Tiempos’ aired on Dazn Spainthe former pilot Jorge ‘Aspar’ Martinez – three times world champion in the 80 class and once in the 125 – offered an interesting point of view on Marquez’s qualities as a test rider: “If Honda doesn’t take a step forward, Marc won’t be able to perform miracles. After the injury he continued to take risks and had many falls. But he’s not young anymore and he’s just come back from injury and I’m surprised he’s risked so much this year. Marquez has always gone fast with the bike they made available to him and therefore the technical aspect of knowing how to improve a motorcycle is probably not in your league“. The Iberian manager then concluded: “Honda is number one in the world, but needs to find a top-level test rider to develop the bike in the best possible way in winter“, referring – in the negative – to Stefan Bradl.
