As we have already reported, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios has changed: instead of the well-known Johan Pilestedt, who was also director of Helldivers 2, there is now Shams Jorjani. Pilestedt will remain as CCO (Chief Creative Officer), but obviously this change has a very specific purpose. It seems that one of the objectives is to give a new push to the company e turn it into something like Blizzard or FromSoftware.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Pilestedt and Jorjani reiterated that they in no way want to sell the company and that they want to take it to the next level so it can become “the next Blizzard or FromSoftware.”
Talking about the products they want to create, they say that the goal is to continue making great cooperative games and to ensure that Arrowhead Game Studios is one of the leading teams for the genre. They want new developers to feel inspired to join the team precisely because they want to create the kind of games the team wants to become known for.
The full statement from Pilestedt and Jorjani
“We pride ourselves on being an independent studio,” Pilestedt said. “We have to see what the future holds, but there is nothing in our plans that pushes us to be acquired by anyone. I want to see how high we can fly. And with Shams coming on board, we have good potential to become the next FromSoftware or Blizzard“.
Jorjani added: “The goal of the study is to making really cool cooperative games. We really want to turn Arrowhead into a flagship studio that gets people who want to make these kinds of games to say, ‘I want to work on Arrowhead.’ When we were growing up, we really wanted to join Blizzard, it was one of the places to work. I think Arrowhead has the potential to be that.”
“We do not operate the business for monetary gain” Pilestedt said. “Humility and the desire to create great games are the only reason for our existence.”
