BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – Argentine farmers have sold 33.6 million tonnes of soy for the 2020/21 season, after sales were registered in a week of 496.6 thousand tonnes, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture said on Tuesday in report with updated data until November 3rd.
The pace of sales of one of Argentina’s main crops was below that of the previous crop, when on the same date 34.8 million tons of the oilseed were registered, official data showed.
The 2020/21 soybean harvest in Argentina ended June with an output of 43.1 million tonnes, according to the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange, which estimated the 2019/20 season crop at 49 million tonnes.
Regarding 2021/22 soybeans, whose planting began last month in Argentina, 2.9 million tonnes have already been sold, according to official data. The exchange estimates the new season’s harvest at 44 million tonnes.
For corn 2020/21, the government informed that sales were 44.1 million tons, about 4.3 million tons more than on the same date of the previous season. Corn 20/21 had a final production of 50.5 million tons, according to the exchange.
The cereal also recorded sales for the 2021/22 season of 9.7 million tonnes. The planting of corn for the new crop is already underway and the Buenos Aires stock exchange estimates the grain harvest at a record 55 million tons.
Wheat 2021/22 recorded sales of 9.8 million tons, compared to 5.8 million sold on the same date in the previous cycle, informed the government. The exchange estimated production at a record 19.8 million tonnes, the harvest of which ends in January.
