The Argentine government reported that it will declare an emergency in the country’s railway sector this Monday (13), but stated that the main hypothesis for a train collision that occurred on Friday (10) in Buenos Aires was that “ human error” and denied a relationship between the two facts.
“We understand that there was a human error, but we respect the work of the Justice Department, with which we are collaborating,” said the spokesperson for the Argentine presidency, Manuel Adorni, at his daily press conference, according to information from the Clarín newspaper.
In the accident that occurred in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo, when a passenger train crashed into a train that was stopped, at least 90 passengers were injured; 53 of them were hospitalized.
Adorni said the railway emergency decree is based on a report from the National Transport Regulatory Commission (CNRT) delivered at the end of April and ruled out that the measure is related to Friday’s accident.
“It has nothing to do with what happened, [há] simply an absolutely devastated railway network. On December 10th [dia da posse do presidente Javier Milei]we found the sector with a debt of more than US$ 100 million, emphasis was placed on painting murals in some stations instead of actually making contributions for the maintenance and proper functioning of the system”, said the spokesperson.
