The group of parties with no clear ideological coloring that adheres to the most different governments has returned to the news because of recent agreements with the Bolsonaro government.
The origin of the block dates back to the Constituent Assembly. In 1987-88 congressmen opposed to leftist agendas organized themselves. The bloc still has a conservative bias. There is a large presence of evangelicals and support for toughening criminal legislation.
Being born as an opposition to the left did not prevent Centão from supporting PT governments. Nor any government. Currently, the Centrão chiefs are negotiating support for Jair Bolsonaro. In exchange, have appointed allies to positions in the federal administration.
