Resident Evil 0, Code: Veronica and the other remakes have become Capcom’s true treasure: an almost inexhaustible source of experience, which the Japanese company can draw on as part of a strategy which, on balance, offers only advantages.
In fact, let’s talk about conceptually ready-made productswhich do not require design efforts in terms of concept and structure, should therefore not be “reinvented” but only redesigned on a technical level, as well as enriched in narrative, artistic and direction terms.
Far be it from us to underestimate the weight of these efforts, but in the end it comes down to bets won at the start: titles that have already worked damn well in their time, which can boast a base of enthusiasts eager to play them again and which therefore do not constitute in any way risky projects.
There are two more on the way
Discussing how these products fit into Capcom’s strategies is a must, in light of some recent developments. The well-known leaker Dusk Golem, who in the past Resident Evil Village has revealed long before the official announcement, he declared that the remakes of Resident Evil 0 and Code: Veronica are in the works.
These are two “secondary” chapters of the saga, if we want to define them that way, but both have peculiarities and a story full of potential, being originally born as exclusives: that of Code: Veronica for Dreamcast lasted only a year, while that of Resident Evil 0 for GameCube lasted much longer.
Both therefore boast a potential that should not be underestimatedand after having “taken measures” to the development of the remakes with the excellent Resident Evil 4, which arrived after the half-failure of Resident Evil 3, we imagine that Capcom has clear ideas on how to propose them in the best way.
More importantly, similar projects will consolidate the success and popularity of a franchise that boasts 154 million copies sold to date, modernizing its stories and characters while other internal teams work on unreleased chapters, such as the much talked about Resident Evil 9.
Only a few years ago we would never have thought that the Osaka company could do so well simply by re-proposing its classics in a renewed version, and it is reasonable to ask ourselves whether it is good or bad that users want the return of past games rather than new releases. What do you think? Let’s talk about.
