Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Mohammed bin Hadi Al-Husseini, reviewed before the Federal National Council the mission of the Ministry of Finance in directing the financial resources of the Union, with the aim of achieving development goals, ensuring the happiness of the people of the Union, and contributing to providing security, decent living, and quality of life for the people of the country, explaining that the past year He witnessed many government projects and investments in all major sectors of the national economy.
The Minister confirmed, during the Council session held this morning, to discuss a draft federal law regarding the approval of the unified final account of the Federation (consolidated financial statements) for the fiscal year ending 2023, that the consolidated financial statements of the federal government in 2023 showed revenues worth 66.2 billion dirhams, compared to Actual expenditures amounted to 58.2 billion dirhams in all sectors, while the government’s total assets amounted to 391.7 billion dirhams.
The Minister stated that the actual expenditures for salaries and wages amounted to 22.9 billion dirhams, with the appointment of 2,248 citizens, and in terms of community development and social affairs, approximately 3.3 billion dirhams were spent to ensure a better quality of life for all segments of society.
He said: “With regard to infrastructure and federal streets, more than 2.1 billion dirhams were spent to establish, develop, maintain and illuminate roads, buildings, government centres, schools, hospitals, etc., and more than 5.3 billion dirhams were spent to modernize medical products, devices and equipment, and to develop government hospitals in accordance with the most important standards.” Global and in line with the country’s vision for the UAE to become among the best countries in health care and one of the best treatment destinations in the region.
The Minister pointed out that the government is spending 10.6 billion dirhams to support basic, primary, secondary and higher education, in addition to developing curricula and schools to be a model for the most important and best educational facilities in the region, as the state views education as the most important source of society and the foundation through which future generations are built.
According to the Minister, the federal government spent 7.8 billion dirhams in the defense and security sector, to develop military defense and public security capabilities, in order to ensure the safety of the nation, preserve its gains, and protect its children and residents on its land.
