Steve Jobs and 16 other personalities have been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the Biden administration in the United States, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died in 2011, leaving behind one of the greatest legacies in the history of technology. Apple CEO Tim Cook celebrated the news with an official post on Twitter, in which he wrote: “Today, Steve was awarded the Medal of Freedom, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a citizen in the USA. . He was a visionary who challenged us to see the world not for what it is, but for what it could be. We cherish his memory and will continue to build his legacy. “
The posthumous medal was awarded to Steve Jobs for his role in defining how the world would communicate, as well as for his merits in “transforming the computer, music, film and wireless industries” such as reads the Biden administration’s announcement. During his career, Jobs served as CEO of Apple and Pixar, and held executive roles within Disney. Other honored personalities include John McCain and Richard Trumka.
