As you may know, Apple recently released an advertisement for its iPad Proin which it represents everything that can be found inside one of its tablets, all with the image of a hydraulic press which crushes musical instruments, a video game arcade, technological tools for video and photo editing and more. The press also helps emphasize how thin the iPad Pro is.
The problem is that for many this commercial is not very sensitive and is perceived as a violent scrapping of the tools of the past. As we explained to you in our news where we delve into the criticisms, Apple finally decided to apologize.
Now, however, the network has become aware of another factor: the commercial isn’t even original, as it basically copies the idea of an old LG advertisement. Obviously we cannot say that it is a true copy, as it could just be a coincidence, but the resemblance is certainly great.
The old LG advert
In the video above, from 2008, you can see one advertisement for the LG KC910 Renoir. The idea is exactly the same: a compact press a series of objects that represent everything the smartphone contains.
The main difference between the two commercials is that at the time there had not been such a clear reaction from the public, perhaps also because the commercial became less viral. In fact, LG’s video has just under 121,000 (in almost 16 years), while Apple’s video has over 2.6 million views in 5 days, using YouTube numbers.
Obviously the difference is also the way I publish approaches this type of content. Today even an advertisement must carefully calculate what the “hidden” meaning may be and ensure that it cannot be misrepresented.
What do you think of this situation? Do you think that the spectators’ reaction was exaggerated or do you believe that nowadays an Apple commercial is actually insensitive to the topic covered?
