The Appeal Committee of the RFEF has agreed to reduce the sanction imposed by Competition on Atlético de Madrid after the incidents that occurred during the Madrid derby on September 29 at the Metropolitano. This body has reduced the partial closure of the stadium, which affected the lower south end, from three to one game. In addition, the financial fine remains at 3,000 euros.
Appeal has been inclined to partially uphold the appeal that the mattress entity had presented, with which it requested the revocation of the sanction imposed by the Competition Committee. They also requested a reduction in the fine imposed, which falls significantly: the initial amount was 45,000 euros.
The Appeal Committee values the “preventive and reactive measures” of the red and whites
In its resolution, the body emphasizes that it has taken into account “the preventive and reactive measures adopted by Atlético”: “They must be evaluated favorably for the club.” However, he also admits that the preventive measures were “insufficient.” He adds that the sanction now imposed is “adequate and proportional” because it adjusts to the “seriousness of the infraction.” Regarding the reduction of the fine, they emphasize the “collaboration” of the entity in identifying the perpetrators of the throwing of objects at Thibaut Courtois’ goal.
In this way, the closure of the lower south end of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano will only occur in the match against Leganés this October 20 at 4:15 p.m. It will not affect, as planned, the matches against Las Palmas and Alavés.
It should be noted that this decision of the Appeal Committee is independent of the proposal made this Tuesday by Anti-Violence, which proposed the total closure of the Colchonero stadium for two weeks and the imposition of a financial penalty that would amount to 65,000 euros. The person who must endorse (or not) this approach is the Secretary of State for Security, which is in charge of opening files when the proposed amount exceeds 60,000 euros.
