Zambrano had a new opportunity in the Ibero-American Athletics Championships held in Cuiabá (Brazil). However, he ran twice and in neither time did he manage to go under 45 seconds, the minimum record to be able to travel to Paris.
The athlete still has a chance to achieve the mark, but time is short and he will have to work hard if he wants to return to the Olympics.
Zambrano’s difficult moment due to injuries
Zambrano had initially achieved the mark at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where he achieved, in the fourth series, a mark of 44 seconds and 92 hundredths. However, he was disqualified for lane invasion and, although he had made it to the semi-finals, he was eliminated.
For the same reason, Zambrano was also disqualified from the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, where he had won the bronze medal.
Zambrano also won the gold medal in the National Games, but he lowered the intensity when he felt like a winner to celebrate with the fans and the mark rose to 46:19.
Zambrano has three more options left to get the brand: first, in the Bogotá Grand Prix, which will take place on May 25 and 26; then, in Cali, on June 15, and, finally, in the national Championship, also in the capital of the Valley, from June 28 to 30.
