The criticisms of Vowles
Unlike what happened in the last one Australian Grand Prix, the Suzuka starting grid will regularly see twenty cars lined up. In Melbourne, during the first free practice session, Alex Albon he had been involved in an accident he had destroyed his Williamsputting the team in difficulty for the absence of a spare chassis. At that point, however, James Vowles had decided to provide the vehicle for the guilty party Logan Sargeant to the Anglo-Thai, sacrificing him from the race and generating strong controversy, with the American now ready to return.
Extra frames absent for a long time to come
However, there is a problem: the two drivers must absolutely not make any type of mistake similar to Albon's at Albert Park. Also in JapanIn fact, the team will not have an extra chassis available, and that's not all. As confirmed by Sargeant in the press conference before the Suzuka weekend, it is very likely that Williams will continue with this lack probably until the Miami Grand Prixwith the next appointment in China therefore taking place with only two chassis.
Sargeant's chassis
Still in this regard, Sargeant then added a further detail that is not at all secondary: “My chassis is Alex's repaired onejust because the workload of changing cars would be too demanding for the mechanics – he has declared – but the repair went better than expected, so as far as I know, it should be perfectly normal“. Williams has not yet pre-established any strategy in the event of accidents, although the driver himself admitted that this problem has persisted since the beginning of the year: “It's a situation that we had to face in the first three races. We went to Saudi Arabia with the same situation and of course it's one of those things where you know you have to be careful, but at the same time you can't be. It's Formula 1: if you're careful, you're not going anywhere. So you don't even have to ask. You have to commit, be confident and hope that nothing goes wrong!”.
