The Morelia International Film Festival is celebrating the anniversary of its first 20 years and that is why it has chosen a stellar program that will include some of the most anticipated premieres of the year, as well as the presence of Academy Award winners such as Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu Y Barry Jenkis.
This new edition of Morelia Film Festival will take place from October 22 to 29, 2022 and will be presented in a hybrid version with face-to-face performances at Cinépolis Morelia Centro, Cinépolis Plaza Las Américas, Mariano Matamoros Theater, University Cultural Center and Plaza Benito Juárez, as well as free virtual performances through from Cinépolis Klic, Canal 22 and FilminLatino.

This year works of the highest quality have been selected for the competition in the categories of Michoacan Section, Mexican Short Film, Mexican Documentary and Mexican Feature Film. There will be the participation of 59 short films, 15 documentary films, 11 works from Michoacan and 10 feature films that add up to 95 works by filmmakers from different states of the Mexican Republic.

inaugural function
The movie BARD, False Chronicle of a Few Truths, of Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárrituwill be screened on October 22 during the Opening Ceremony and will feature the presence of the acclaimed Mexican director and writer.
FICM General Director, Daniela Michel, assured that she felt honored to have Iñárritu’s presence at the festival. “We are happy that he is joining us for the fifth time, someone who has always had a great commitment to Mexico and whom we love very much.”
Special event
In celebration of the 20th anniversary, a grand gala will be held during the long-awaited Latin American premiere of the film. “Pinocchio” of William of the Bull. Although the Mexican director will not be able to attend the event in person, the directors of the festival do not rule out having his participation virtually.
luxury guests
This new edition of the festival will surprise its guests with the presence of legendary figures from the film industry, such as the American director and Oscar winner, Barry Jenkins, who will present Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, The Underground Railroad and The Gaze.
the french director claire denis will attend the festival to present a special cycle of his extraordinary work, the legendary producer, Frank Marshallwill attend the screening of his documentary, Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story and the Spanish actress Maribel Verdu will present Raymond and Ray, by Rodrigo Garcia.
The FICM vice president spoke about the importance that the presence of these film legends means for the festival. “It is always important for us to have the presence of the most outstanding filmmakers. For the presence of Mexican cinema in the world, they have been the bridge.” I assure.
