Politicians have decided to tighten the corona. But are these enough to break the current fourth wave? Markus Söder and Karl Lauterbach are guests of Anne Will on ARD.
- At Anne Will’s Sunday, Markus Söder and Karl Lauterbach, among others, will discuss the current Corona situation.
- Karl Lauterbach is concerned about the development of the Omikron variant (see update from December 5, 10:03 p.m.).
- Markus Söder would like to see Karl Lauterbach as the new health minister (see update from December 5, 10:09 p.m.)
Update from December 5th, 10:28 p.m .: The double Corona summit last week is now an issue. According to Karl Lauterbach, the new rules had already been considered on Sunday and were not made dependent on the judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court on Tuesday.
“It was all a little strange,” says Markus Söder. One would have had a normal MPK, but that was refused. Instead, from Monday to Tuesday there was an invitation to a “federal-state briefing”. In it, Olaf Scholz then discussed a number of measures – “which I found right,” said Söder.
In Söder’s impression, however, the court’s judgment was already important and the subsequent meeting without a resolution has certainly convinced one or the other to agree to the resolutions on Thursday. For example, in its reasoning for the judgment, the court showed that vaccination is not just a personal decision, but also protects fellow human beings.
Update from December 5th, 10:09 p.m .: And will Lauterbach now health minister in the Ampel coalition, Anne Will wants to know. Lauterbach initially said that Olaf Scholz had called him several times, but not on this subject. The SPD has not yet made a decision here, the politician said.
The doctor Carolin Holzner then praised Lauterbach and indicates that he has many fans in the medical profession.
Even Markus Söder thinks Lauterbach is a useful candidate. “He can do it,” said the Prime Minister when asked. This is also due to the fact that in the current situation you need someone who “doesn’t need 100 days of training”.
He would “welcome” if Lauterbach becomes Minister of Health, so Söder in no uncertain terms.
Lauterbach becomes clear with Anne Will: An Omikron development “gives cause for concern”
Update from December 5th, 10:03 p.m .: The first big issue asked Karl Lauterbach about the Omikron variant and the SPD politician becomes clear. They have good data from Israel and the UK because many are vaccinated there: “You can see that the Omicron variant is catching on faster than we had hoped”. In other countries, on the other hand, one could rate poorly why the rapid spread is due. The data from Israel and the UK, on the other hand, are “fantastic”. Here is also tracked how quickly the variant spreads in vaccinated people. “And that is cause for concern,” said the SPD politician.
We have to boost as quickly as possible, because the likelihood that the variant will prevail among those who have been vaccinated is “very low”. For those who have recovered or “only” twice vaccinated, Omikron should have an easier time, according to Lauterbach.
Boosters are therefore the best way to prevent a possible winter lockdown, which nobody can currently rule out, according to the politician.
Lockdown and mandatory vaccination as a solution? Söder and Lauterbach meet at Anne Will’s
Initial report: Berlin – There were two corona summits last week. At the second, new corona tightenings were decided in order to break the fourth wave of the pandemic. And a compulsory vaccination, as Austria has already decided, is now being eagerly discussed. The ARD talk show host Anne Will takes these developments as an opportunity to ask in her Sunday program: “Vaccination compulsory and lockdown for unvaccinated people – will the federal and state governments regain control?”
Söder and Lauterbach in Corona Talk with Anne Will on ARD
Once again, real top-class players will be involved in the discussion. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder is part of the program. He traditionally advocates tough corona measures. And also the SPD politician Karl Lauterbach has become a real size at the latest in the course of the pandemic. In addition, Lauterbach will probably not be able to avoid clarifying the question of his role in the coming traffic light government in this program.
It was recently rumored that he should not become Minister of Health. There is speculation about another important office for Lauterbach. In addition, Konstantin Kuhle discussed with Anne Will on Sunday. He is the domestic political spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
But non-politicians also have their say. Carola Holzner, for example, is a specialist in anesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine and is also known as a medical blogger. She could tell the politicians once more about the dramatic scenes in the hospitals. SZ journalist Cerstin Gammelin is also there. (rjs)
