Here is the Oipa press release
For the case dating back to 2019 of the animals seized in Piacenza because they lived in really precarious and terrible hygienic conditions, justice ran its course. As announced by Oipa, the International Organization for the Protection of Animals, i owners were sentenced for the mistreatment inflicted on poor creatures.
In 2019, the agents had seized some animals that lived on a farm in Valtrebbia, in the province of Piacenza. The animals were undernourished and in poor hygienic conditions. Two years later another 16 dogs and 7 cats had been seized for detention in conditions incompatible with their nature under Article 727 of the Criminal Code.
After some time from those events that had upset everyone, the sentence arrived, as announced by Oipa, the international organization for the protection of animals, in a press release.
The Court of Piacenza ordered the confiscation for incompatible detention pursuant to Article 727 of the Criminal Code of the 16 dogs and 7 cats seized in May 2021 in a kennel in Valtrebbia, in the province of Piacenza, for detention in conditions incompatible with their nature pursuant to article 727 of the Criminal Code.
In addition, the accused will also have to pay court costs and a fine of 2,000 euros. Plus another 2000 euros to each of the two associations that have formed a civil party. That is, the Oipa and the NDC, the National Dog Defense League.
Animals seized in Piacenza, the sentence is fine but more severe penalties are needed
Claudia Taccani and Michele Pezone, lawyers of the two associations that have formed a civil party in the trial, say they are satisfied with the sentence. But it takes tougher penalties and tighter controls to try to stop a growing phenomenon.
In the meantime, however, judgments like these demonstrate attention to animal welfare. We must always condemn any act of cruelty. To safeguard the life of those who have no voice to defend themselves.
