Last week the world of Formula 1 had welcomed the news of a possible new-entry between the starting teams from 2024; a reality, this, which could respond to the name of the team Andretti Global, a team owned by Michael Andretti – son of the 1978 world champion, Mario – and already present in major US car competitions. The request to the FIA to actually enter the Circus had aroused different reactions among the manufacturers currently present in the top flight, including the Renault, which competes with the denomination of Alpine. The French manufacturer, through Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi, had opened up to a possible partnership with Andretti in the event of a hypothetical entry into F1, but postponing the question to a moment that would not distract the team from the commitments of the next world championship.
However, almost unexpectedly, the paths between Alpine and Andretti recently crossed with a formal agreement between the two realities, which provides the supply of Renault power units to the future American team from 2024. An agreement that was communicated by Mario Andretti during an interview with David Landduring which he revealed some details of the negotiation: “We have a formal agreement now on the engine supplier – he has declared – which will be Renault, e I am authorized to say it now“. In addition to this admission, Andretti explained the concern of Toto Wolff regarding a possible agreement between his team and Ferrari, which would have brought the number of teams powered by the Red to three, exactly like Mercedes: “There has been a lot of speculation from Wolff too – he added – who was concerned that our partnership could be achieved with Ferrari ”.
In conclusion, in addition to the aspect inherent to the power units, Andretti also revealed the possible base of operation of his own team, which he would have identified in the UK: “We all know the prerequisites – he added – and there is also a time factor that we must take into account. Once we have started the project, we carry it out, and a lot of work has already been done. We know where the facility will be built, which will be in the UK. We know prominent individuals who have done this kind of work with start-ups, and we have many, many plans in mind. I understand that there are a lot of steps to be taken, and I realize that it is a huge undertaking, but we are ready for it. I’ve been in this industry myself for 67 years, so we know what’s going on on both sides of the Atlantic. This shows that determination and ambition in the sport. We – he concluded – we only live and breathe motor racing, and we are ready to go ”.
