The 2024-I League has been marked by controversies over the work of the referees and the VAR. One of the ones that generated the most noise was the match between Pereira and Junior, on February 25.
In stoppage time, Steven Rodríguez tied the game for Junior after grabbing a rebound. In the previous action, Carlos Bacca was ahead and the game referee, Andrés Rojas, initially annulled the action.
However, those in charge of the VAR, Diego Flechas and Haver Motta, told Rojas that, although Bacca was in an advanced position, he did not interfere with the vision of goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo and that is why the goal was valid. The Colombian Football Federation revealed the audios to explain the decision.
The president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, said he had asked international analysts to review the play.
“I asked as a personal favor that it be studied internationally. And they told me that it was a very strange play, but they congratulated us, that the VAR acted well,” Jesurún revealed to ESPN.
Andrés Rojas, designated to whistle again on date 12
The Arbitration Commission agreed with the arbitration group and that is why, for matchday 12 of the League, they reappointed Rojas. He will be the central judge of the match between Alianza FC and Deportivo Pasto, this Friday, starting at 6 pm
Rojas only spent two days without directing, which represents a vote of confidence by the Technical Arbitration Commission, headed by former judge Imer Machado.
