When Andrés Mosquera Marmolejo He enters the court, at 32 years old, he feels the same as the first day: tickles in his stomach, nerves, he wonders what will happen. Then he goes to the goal, his home in those 90 minutes, and he positions himself ready to take all the shots, and there will almost always be many, then he begins his function: he jumps there, flies there, floats from one side to the other, as if unreal, as in a permanent photo, with elasticity in arms and legs, agile as the wind, strong as a wall.

And so, with gloves that emanate fire from so much work, is how Marmolejo (born in Carepa, Antioquía, from a family of goalkeepers, father of four children and admirer of Courtois and David Ospina) has become responsible for Santa Fe Sleep peacefully, because he is there to guard not only the goal, but the precious illusion of all the fans of getting the star.
Marmolejo, the guardian of Santa Fe
Yes, the most outstanding are always the striker, the one with the goals or the one with the passes, the different player is the one who stands out, but our position has something particular and that is that when we do well, they recognize it, but when things are bad for you, they let you know. A mistake by a goalkeeper is very noticeable, the goalkeeper’s mistake almost always ends in a goal. We are alone, there is no one to save you and the error is very noticeable. I am happy for this great moment in Santa Fe and for being able to help the team in every game and for the work to be good and appreciated.
You are an archer who earns points; Every save of his is like a goal…
I always highlight collective work, I never stay individual. There are 11 of us who enter the field and there is the bench, the coaching staff, the players who are not going to the game. The press highlights the most outstanding, but I always value the team, my defense that helps me, those up front who work for the goal…
It gives me a lot of joy, and I feel that desire to continue shooting at every ball, serving every ball, because as you say, you hear the shouts of the people, and to the teammate who comes up to you and tells you ‘you did very well’, that gives you full of joy, knowing that a good job is being done, then getting to the dressing room and hugging each other and knowing that we won and fully fulfilled what the teacher said: it makes me want to continue on that path.
It is said that a team becomes champion with a good goalkeeper and a scorer…
Heh, heh, heh, there is a lot of truth in having a solid goalkeeper and a scorer, which has to do with because he is the one who defines, and we have Hugo (Rodallega), but for me we are all of us, the defender who It helps you, the flyers, the colleagues who come in with the greatest willingness. All of that adds up to a championship, even the props, the doctors, the guy who cleans the guayos…

Rodallega recently said: ‘We have a lot of goalkeepers.’ What do you think of that confidence?
Seeing the faces of your teammate, the coaching staff, and seeing that they believe in you, that they feel safe with you, is a reason for joy, for admiration, and it fills me even more to know that there is complete trust in you, because they know that there is a person who will give everything for them. Hugo is very demanding, he demands of me and tells me: ‘You have to give more and more.’
I remember one against Fortaleza, a head-to-head, the rebound was left and again I saved, and another rebound was left and I went for the ball again, it is a save that I remember a lot, with the wonderful emotion of saving 3 times in one play and getting up and hearing the fans’ applause, that fills me.
Where does he get his agility, how did he forge it?
God gave me that ability to do what I do well. I think things are due to work, that’s where you see the evolution, the growth, how far you can go… I will always give a little more, I can’t find a comfort zone, I can’t find a limit, every day I’ll give more , making an effort, I find all that at work.
A goalkeeper who saves a lot, maybe he is a goalkeeper who gets hit a lot…
It’s true, I wish a game would happen where they didn’t get to one of us, ugh, it would be very reassuring for the coaches if the goalkeeper didn’t get his uniform dirty. But if there is one action, you have to help in that one, and if there are two, you have to be in those. There are games where they never come to you and you were calm, but in others they come to you 10 or 12 times and you have to respond.
It was not easy to get to Santa Fe, I was in Medellín, I was staying for a year, but coming here was a challenge to decide. Santa Fe opened the doors to me at a difficult time, I was coming off an injury, after losing a final against Junior on penalties, a key moment where as a goalkeeper you know that your teammates trust you, it didn’t happen. We lost another final against Pereira in the same instance. All of that hit me, not having provided what everyone expected of me. We made the decision with my family to look at another air.
He is a serious, silent archer, or so he appears. You talk to the shortcuts about him…
Yes, that is fundamental and your person talks about you off the court, you have to set an example, show what you are so that they see in you a solid person, a leader, committed, serious, that they talk about what you are. We are mirrors but we want to be mirrors of good references.
And with the National Team (Marmolejo was in the youth team and in a friendly match with the senior team in 2022) is there any window open?
I don’t know, I think that with the new process one doesn’t know if it is on the radar or not, if they are looking at you or not… We will always be attentive, waiting for the opportunity to open up again one day, it is the dream, the desire , represent the country, wear those colors. I will continue working and demonstrating.
Starting at home winning, with a solid Tolima, which scored 38 points, filled us with excitement. Now it’s about continuing to believe, working equally or harder in each game to seek the result. We have a good rival like La Equidad, we hope to be well prepared to achieve the result.
Is it your time to win the League?
I hope so, that this is a wonderful opportunity for my career, for Santa Fe, for the fans and for all of us who are working so that the tenth star can be achieved. I hope we can achieve it, it is not easy, but we are on the right path.
