Andrés Manuel López Obrador champions the Mexican athletes who will attend the Olympic Games

Mexico City.- The honor is yours! This Tuesday, June 11, the Mexican athletes who obtained a place in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games appeared at the National Palace to present the flag to the Mexican delegation.

The president of the Mexican Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was in charge of delivering our national flag to Alejandra Orozco and Emiliano Hernández when they were chosen as our standard bearers in the next summer fair.

“I commend this flag to your patriotism, which symbolizes your independence, honor, institutions, our people and the integrity of your territory, protest to honor and defend it with loyalty and justice,”

«By granting them the honor of putting it in their hands, the country trusts that as good Mexican candles they will know how to carry out this protest for the good of the people and for the good of the nation, many congratulations and we wish them on behalf of the people of Mexico, of our homeland, the greatest of successes, congratulations,” exclaimed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Both the diver and the pentathlete highlighted that receiving the national flag is an unforgettable moment in the life of an athlete, since it means representing the country in the Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, Ana Gabriela Guevara, director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), who has been harshly criticized for her lack of support for Mexican athletes, issued a few words for each one.

“Mexico will be present at Paris 2024 with the best athletes. I am sure that each of you has done the best, every competition and training will be worth it to make that dream come true. You are the role models for the new generations,” she assured.

Mary José Alcalá, the first woman president of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) and Martí Batres, Head of Government of Mexico City, were also present at the flag raising.
