actress and singer Ana Belen has received with “humility and surprise” the XXX Passionflower Award which was given to him this Thursday by Women’s Area Xixon United Leftin recognition of a long history of “political commitment to feminism and human rights.”
“What have I done to deserve this?” Ana Belén asked herself in her words of gratitude for the award given to her at an event held at the Collegiate Church of San Juan Bautista of the Revillagigedo Palace.
The actress said she was “surprised” when she was informed last October that the award was going to be given to her, because she did not expect to receive recognition that was not about her artistic career.
Ana Belén has said that she receives it “with humility” because “there are and were many anonymous women who have contributed to the fight for rights” to a greater extent than she herself.
Furthermore, it has vindicated the struggle of women who throughout history, especially those who have lived through the times of the Republic, have sown the seed so that “little by little” current rights and freedoms have been achieved.
The IU Women’s Area has sought in the thirtieth edition of the Pasionaria award to recognize the singer’s “commitment to the right to a free and free abortion and her participation in campaigns against sexist violence and for real and effective equality between men and women.
