Former Barça player Riqui Puig, current Los Angeles Galaxy player, emerged as a hero in his team’s 1-0 victory against the Seattle Sounders with the assist of Serbian Dejan Joveljic’s goal. The victory crowned the Californian team as the best squad in the Western Conference. However, the game had a negative note for the Angelenos.
The La Masia youth player injured his left anterior cruciate ligament during the second half and will miss the final that the Galaxy will play on December 7 at home against the New York Red Bulls to determine the MLS champion. The Catalan midfielder remained on the pitch for more than 30 minutes with discomfort and in that state he gave the pass in the play for the decisive goal.
Puig was encouraged and sent a message of positivity to his club’s fans. “Today a new challenge begins. “I will be off the field for several months, but I am already eager and motivated to return stronger than ever and ready to continue making history at this club,” Puig wrote on Instagram.
The one from Matadepera had been essential throughout the Galaxy’s playoff run, finding the net four times and distributing three assists in four games. In previous instances, he had already accumulated 13 goals and 15 assists in 29 games in the regular season to consolidate the Californians’ second place in the West. The 25-year-old player has scored 23 goals and 28 assists in 68 games (65 starts), since his arrival in the United States in 2022.
