Today, a US congressional delegation, led by Congressmen Norma Torres and Sarah Jacobsen, is visiting Sudan to discuss support for the political process and humanitarian assistance, as well as how the United States and the United Nations can work together to support the Sudanese people.
During its 5-day visit, the delegation will meet with the United Nations Integrated Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan, as well as a wide range of actors from political parties, NGOs and civil society to gain a better understanding of the work of the United Nations in Sudan.
The visit is accompanied by the latest developments in Sudan after the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced the non-participation of the military institution in the dialogue facilitated by the tripartite mechanism, and his call for the formation of a government of competencies, the dissolution of the Sovereignty Council afterwards, and the formation of a Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, US Assistant Secretary of State Molly Faye will appear before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee next Tuesday on Sudan.
Observers of the American affairs said that there is a state of resentment and anger in the US Senate because of the US administration’s handling of the Sudan file.
On the other hand, the Khartoum Resistance Committees’ coordinators announced the lifting of the sit-in at the Quality Hospital.
