Lula's special advisor stated that the intensification of repression in the neighboring country could affect the electoral process
The International advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Celso Amorim, stated this Tuesday (13.Feb.2024) that “any arrest of a political nature is worrying”when asked about the elections in Venezuela
“I don’t know all the circumstances, but the resurgence of repression, if confirmed, is a fact that worries us because we are committed to dialogue”stated Amorim, to the Globe.
One of the main opponents of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, the lawyer and specialist in military issues Rocío San Miguel was arrested on Friday (Feb 9) at Simón Bolívar Airport, in Maiquetía.
The lawyer will respond for “terrorism”, “betrayal of the country” It is “conspiracy”according to Venezuela's attorney general, Tarek William Saab.
The opposition claims that the Venezuelan government has increased repression against opponents in an election year. Maria Corina Machado, Maduro's political opponent who was vetoed from the elections, spoke out about the case.
