President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Thursday that the United States government understood that the reform of the Judicial Branch is a matter that only concerns Mexicansand this is reflected in the fact that there have been no further statements on the matter.
“They have acted responsibly because since we established this position they have publicly stopped intervening because they made the mistake of speaking out against the reform of the judicial power and we never go to the United States to tell them what is wrong when they present a reform initiative in the Congress“, the president said.
In his morning press conferenceat the National Palace, said that in the United States it was understood that judicial reform is a matter for Mexicans.
“We are a free, independent and sovereign country; fortunately, there have been no opinions on this matter,” the head of the Executive stressed.
He pointed out that it is the legally and legitimately constituted powers in Mexico that are resolving the issue of constitutional reform.
“If we Mexicans could not reform our Constitution, we would not be an independent country, we would be a colony, a protectorate,” said the Tabasco native.
This is understood in the United States, President Joe Biden understands it, he himself points out that the treatment between our countries must be on equal terms, López Obrador stated, literally saying on an equal footing.
“But as happens in many countries, including Mexico, there are those within the government itself who have a different opinion. In the United States, Congress is very influential, then the State Department, the Department of Justice, the White House, the agencies, the parties,” the president noted.
“It is not monolithic, and it is good that it is not so, that there is democracy, but there are those who do not respect the rights of others.”
López Obrador commented that there is no need to dialogue with President Biden on this matter because there is no topic.
