During the delivery of the Decoration of the Mexican Order of the Aztec EagleTo the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, Andrés Manuel López Obrador took the opportunity to call on the United States to lift the trade blockade on the island.
López Obrador expressed that the optimal conditions currently exist to achieve mutual respect and walk together without leaving anyone behind.
He also considered that the lifting of the blockade would be a sign of goodwill and a sign that he is willing to fraternize with all the countries of America.
Besides, President López Obrador highlighted the example of resistance and fight for the sovereignty of Cuba and suggested that, for this reason, the country could be considered a world heritage site.
However, also pointed out that it is time to explore a new option for coexistence among all the countries of the Americasand that it is necessary to dialogue and convince the US rulers of a new relationship between the countries of the continent.

In addition, he expressed his appreciation to the people and government of Mexico and his admiration and interest in the broad transformative process that they defend.
The Decoration of the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle It is the highest distinction that Mexico gives to foreigners, and it is granted to recognize outstanding services rendered to the Mexican Nation or to humanity.

PAN repudiates award
Meanwhile, the National Action Party repudiated that “the dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel” be awarded the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, considered the highest distinction in the country to a foreigner.

He also condemned that the strengthening of relations between Cuba and Mexico, through the implementation of international missions in the country, occurs in the context of modern slavery, human trafficking and flagrant violations of their human rights.

“Let us remember that the Cuban regime has around a thousand political prisoners, many of them for having asserted their right to free demonstration in the protests of July 11, 2021, the same in which they demanded a change of life since approximately 50% of the population lives in misery, a situation that has plunged them into a serious humanitarian crisis,” said Mariana Gómez del Campo, Secretary for International Affairs of the CEN of the PAN.
