The president reproached the US newspaper for calling Biden, questioning whether they do not know how “the power mafia” works in Mexico, after accusing various journalists, such as Loret de Mola, Carmen Aristegui, Joaquín López Dóriga and Jorge Ramos. , of being at the service of vested interest groups.
“Doesn’t the Washington Post know how the mafia of power works in Mexico? Don’t you know how corruption prevailed? How did the owners of Mexico feel as a group? How were the causes of inequality, of poverty, that violence broke out in the country?” AMLO questioned the Washington Post.
These statements by AMLO come a day after the US newspaper published an editorial calling on President Joe Biden to condemn the attacks against journalists by his Mexican counterpart.
“He should condemn (Biden) the attacks on Mexican journalists and call on our democratic allies to support a free press,” the media outlet said.
The Washington Post deplored that President López Obrador dedicated a large part of his February 11 Morning to attacking Carlos Loret de Mola, who collaborates with said newspaper as an opinion columnist.
“The journalist, an assiduous critic of the government, recently published a investigation into the son of López Obradorwhose seemingly lavish lifestyle contrasts dramatically with the humble public persona promoted by the Mexican President,” the newspaper said.
In addition, he described AMLO’s decision to reveal Loret de Mola’s alleged millionaire income as “a brazen attempt to discredit and intimidate.”
