Lockheed Martin is preparing a HELIOS combat laser (High Energy Laser and Integrated Optical-dazzler with Surveillance, a high-energy laser with an integrated blinding laser and surveillance function) for installation on the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyer Preble. A ship with a combat laser will go to sea in 2022. About it informs Breaking Defense.
During a speech at the Surface Fleet Association symposium, Lockheed Martin chief executive Janine Matthews said that the HELIOS laser completed its test cycle at Wallops Island in the fall.

Matthews noted that HELIOS received elements for integration into the Aegis Combat Information and Control System (CIC). In the future, the laser will become one of the main components of the CICS.
The development of HELIOS began in 2018. The system includes a 60 kilowatt combat laser and an optical subsystem for observing objects. HELIOS also received a low-power laser that can blind the enemy’s optical systems.
In October, The Drive reported on the transfer of the AHEL laser to the US Air Force. The development of Lockheed Martin is planned to be installed on the AC-130J aircraft.
In April, Popular Mechanics noted that the laser weapons of American ships would allow them to hit Russian Caliber missiles and Chinese YJ-18 missiles.
