Amazon.it, with an official note, presented the ranking of the Italian cities that read the most based on the data collected in the time window that goes from July 2023 to June 2024. Milan confirms its first place for the twelfth year in a row, followed by Pavia and Siena, which maintain the second and third positions. Pisa reaches fourth place, with Padua and Bologna following in fifth and sixth. Cagliari also makes an appearance in the top 10, taking seventh place. Rome overtakes Florence, positioning itself in eighth place, while the Tuscan capital slips to ninth. Closing the ranking is Trieste, a city historically linked to great writers.
Amazon’s note also analyses other interesting information related to the habits of Italian readers who access the e-commerce platform. While Bologna, Padua and Cagliari prefer digital formats, Milan, Pavia and Rome are the cities most faithful to the charm of the printed paper.
From timeless classics to the latest innovations, Italians show a strong passion for historical fiction, thrillers and romance novels. Training and reference texts are also highly appreciated. Among the most read books are “Il vaso di Pandoro” by Selvaggia Lucarelli, “La portalettere” by Francesca Giannone, “A wild animal” by Joël Dicker, “When we were the masters of the world. Rome: the infinite empire” by Aldo Cazzullo and “Tutto è qui per te” by Fabio Volo.
The press release also recalls the2024 edition of “Amazon Storyteller”, the first literary prize in Italy dedicated to aspiring writers and established authors.
