In the segment ‘Insecurity and organized crime’, the Citizen Movement (MC) candidate for the Presidency of Mexico, Jorge Álvarez Máynezhe stated in the Third Presidential Debate that if he wins the elections on June 2, no young people will go to prison for consuming dopeopening the doors to a possible legalization.
“Never again will a young person go to jail for smoking marijuana (…) young people who go to jail for smoking marijuana should not be there, that’s why the jails are full of innocent people,” he said.
Another of the proposals that Álvarez Máynez offered during his participation still belonging to the first block of the last Presidential Debate, he is related to the abortion:
“Never again will a woman be in jail for deciding about her body,” she added.
On the other hand, he recalled that during his time as a legislator proposed the “National Pacific Plan” as an alternative route to the security strategy of ‘Hugs not bullets’ of the Fourth Transformation (T4), which he said only continued militarism in the Mexican streets.
“In 2007 the homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants was 8, at the end of Calderón’s six-year term it was already more than double; at the end of Peña Nieto’s six-year term it was already almost four times more and the current government that promised a new new security strategy, I did not change it, militarism continued, prohibitionism continued and punitivism continued (…) I am the only one who has presented a different route to that failed security strategy that is the National pacification plan,” he stated .
